With the nights drawing in and the temperature dropping, all we want to do is cosy up at home. What better time of year to give your home a freshen up than autumn, ready for a season of snuggling on the sofa. Staying in is the new going out, didn’t you know?

Here are a few of our favourite home decor trends for autumn 2018. Whether you fancy a whole new look or just want to mix things up with a few new accessories, here are the key trends and pieces to look out for this season.

New Nordic

Scandi style will never go out of fashion, but this season it’s had a modern makeover. Focus on key pieces of pale wood furniture, coupled with a muted colour palette and soft textures to add depth. Think pale blue-grey walls with birch furniture, along with blush pink, sage or lavender accents. Just make sure to keep colours understated and neutral for an effortlessly stylish look. Don’t forget to add linen tablecloths, woven rugs or faux fur throws to make the space cosy and inviting on dark evenings.

Think Pink

It’s not just millennial pink that’s big this autumn - all blush hues are in. From shocking fuchsia to dusty rose, we can’t get enough of this trend. Pink adds the perfect amount of warmth and colour to a room, helping to make cold spaces appear cosy and welcoming. Go all-out with a top-to-toe pink room (pale dusky pink walls, a deep pink velvet sofa, blush pink textiles), or add interest to a neutral room with pink cushions, rugs, vases or lamps.

Global Folk

Take inspiration from the warmer corners of the world this autumn and embrace the global folk trend. Eclectic, earthy and diverse, this trend is all about pattern, texture and folksy details. Add a handcrafted paisley quilt to your bedroom for an instant injection of sunshine, or adorn your sofa with woven pom pom cushions. Stick to a rich colour palette of terracotta, inky blue, mustard and teal, or go for a more modern version of the trend with monochrome handwoven accessories.

Scandi Vintage

For this trend, think mid-century modern with the Scandi turned up to 11. Evoking 1950s nostalgia, combined with modern Scandinavian influences, look out for lots of wood, primary colours and post-war floral patterns. Keep things from looking too kitsch by combining bright splashes of colour with neutral walls. In the kitchen, opt for a few statement pattern pieces alongside understated wooden furniture and white tableware.

Sustainability

With all of us becoming more conscious about what we’re buying and where it comes from, sustainability is set to be a huge home trend this autumn. From upcycling to shopping from local artisans, there are lots of ways to embrace this trend, no matter what your interior style is. Go for shabby chic with recycled furniture and handmade items, or opt for a more minimalist style with artisan, handcrafted furniture and fairtrade accessories.

In the Navy

Undoubtedly the hottest colour of this season is deep, dark navy blue. The perfect shade to add a little drama and depth to a room, without making it feel too dark and cold, navy will be everywhere this autumn. Team navy walls with gold accessories for a luxury look, or add navy velvet cushions to crisp white sheets for a super chic bedroom.

Luxe Velvet

Speaking of velvet, this luxury fabric is another autumn interiors trend we can definitely get on board with. Replace your tired old sofa with a velvet settee for instant glamour - opt for dark jewel tones for maximum opulence. Even just an accent chair or some velvet cushions can make a room seem much more luxurious. Mix with patterned throws and statement artwork for a maximalist look.
