Troon Story
On the beautiful South Ayrshire coastline, overlooking the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig, Troon boasts sandy beaches, magnificent views and now – with the opening of the Marine Troon today – a stunning luxury hotel to match.
Troon may be synonymous with golf, its seven incredible courses include the Royal Troon’s Old Course, but the picturesque coastal town is also a perfect getaway for those who aren’t interested in taking to the greens. It’s home to a bustling harbour, marina, and Ayrshire's fish market, as well as an abundance of independent cafés and restaurants making the most of the glorious, fresh local produce. There is something for everyone, with a concert hall, independent boutiques, shops and a state-of-the-art sailing and water sports facility.
The Marine Troon is a welcome addition to the resort. Built in 1894, it was originally designed by renowned art nouveau-inspired Glaswegian architects Salmon and Gillespie. Due to its imposing stature and unrivalled location the hotel became the destination’s major hospitality landmark by the turn of the century, as wealthy Victorians headed ‘doon the watter’ for recreation and wellbeing.
Now, with the resurgence of Scots choosing to holiday closer to home, the Marine Troon has had its grandeur restored with a dazzling refurbishment. As a part of the Marine & Lawn group of luxury hotels, it looks set to bring a renaissance to the entire area.
With 89 stylish guest rooms, the Marine Troon also introduces a new restaurant, The Rabbit and its sister bar, The Seal. The menus have been led by Marine & Lawn Rusacks St Andrews’ Executive Chef, Derek Johnstone and champion hyper-seasonal, local ingredients together with Scottish seafood and game, showcasing the very best of classic British cooking.
Guests and members can also enjoy the luxurious spa and fitness centre complete with indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms, a squash court and more. Get set to put Troon well and truly back on your holiday map.
