Autumn hair care trends from Charlie Miller

We know that looking after your hair when the seasons change can be a bit tricky. We’ve just gotten used to dealing with the humidity and frizz and all of a sudden we’re dealing with flat lifeless hair that needs an energy boost.

Autumn is a great time for a hair overhaul; a fresh cut and colour always makes us feel re-energized and ready to take on the season ahead. We spoke to some of the lovely salon directors at Charlie Miller about what’s hot for AW19 and how to take the best care of your hair as the temperatures drop.

The new ombré

“Clients are looking for richer autumnal tones, giving a healthier, glossier look. In line with the recently launched Nude Ombré shades there will be more salted caramels and biscuity blondes, looking much richer and warmer for the seasonal change,” explains Amber Swift, salon director at Charlie Miller Holy Corner. “It’s still balayage, but with a more muted palette.”

And which products does Amber recommend to keep your hair healthy this winter? “Kérastase Ciment Thermique is great for strength and heat protection, and I also love Kérastase Nectar Thermique for clients looking to moisturise their hair and prime it for the intensity of straightening and blow drying.”

Autumnal tones

According to Natalie Cole, salon director at the Frederick Street branch, it’s all about the gorgeous, warm seasonal colours this autumn. “Autumnal tones are very much in: blondes are warmer, brunettes are rich and deep, and redheads are coppery and multi-tonal.”

“Shu Uemura’s Essence Absolue is my go-to product for the winter months,” adds Natalie. “It’s a nourishing protective oil, perfect for dressing out dry hair, calming any static caused by all the fabrics and cold weather. It’s also brilliant used as an overnight treatment the night before washing in the morning. It works like a nocturnal treatment for the hair.”

Accessorise your hair

Rosslyn Orr, salon director at South St Andrew Street, agrees that warm tones are a big trend: “Key looks will see vibrant blondes and high gloss warm carmel tones complementing the Pantone toffee carmels and winter whites we’re seeing on the catwalks.” She also thinks accessories will be a big A/W trend, just in time for party season. “We’ll also see much more use of accessories: brooches, clips, headbands and scarves.”
