The easy festive nail art look anyone can do at home

Whether you're a nail art minimalist or are eager to embrace the festive season with a dose of sparkle, this talon look is guaranteed to spark joy in all.

While some trends are undoubtedly divisive – particularly when it comes to beauty – but, once in a while, one will come along that seems to work for everyone, whether they consider themselves to be a minimalist or maximalist. And that's the case when it comes to foil nails.

Over the last few weeks, we've spotted several foil-adorned manicures cropping up on the feeds of some of Scotland's top salons. Easily the chicest festive nail art trend going, the reason we think the trend has become so popular is down to its versatility.

You can use the foil to adorn your nails with a thin French tip, or you can go all-out and cover your entire nail in a sheet of molten goodness. The options are endless and can be tailored to suit you, whatever your tolerance for sparkle may be. Feel like giving it a go yourself?

Scroll below and follow our three-step guide to recreate the look at home. Shine on!

1. APPLY YOUR BASE COLOUR
While any hue will work as a backdrop for foil, you can't go wrong with a simple, goes-with-everything blush.

We recommend: Essie Nail Polish in Ballet Slippers, £7.99, Boots

2. ADD THE FOIL
Using tweezers, place your foil onto your colour coat whilst it's still tacky. Once you're pleased with the effect, use the head of your tweezers to press down and secure. If this step sounds too tricky, cheat the look with a polish boasting large gold glitter—we won’t tell if you don’t.

We recommend: In Your Dream Rainbow Geode Face Body Nail Foil, £12, ASOS.com, or Gold Flake Nail Polish, £3.99, H&M

3. LOCK IN PLACE
Finish your foil nail look with two thin layers of top coat to ensure your flecks stay in place.

We recommend: NARS Cosmetics Nail Polish Top Coat, £16, Look Fantastic
