The best thriller box sets

Line of Duty

This five-season crime drama follows the work of AC-12, a police anti-corruption unit, and DS Steve Arnott, who’s brought into the fold after a counter-terrorism operation goes badly wrong. Working alongside DSI Ted Hastings and DC Kate Fleming, Arnott is tasked with uncovering the dark side of the police service.

Idris Elba stars in this dark, twisting drama, playing passionate detective John Luther, who ends up befriending and working alongside a psychopathic murderer that he couldn’t arrest.

Killing Eve

This thriller had viewers on the edge of their seats, so if you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, prepare yourself! Eve’s life as a spy isn’t quite what she’s hoped. Spending her days in MI5 desk-bound and bored, things change when Eve is tasked with hunting down psychopathic assassin, Villanelle.

Broadchurch

A gripping, ‘whodunnit’ thriller, starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant. A sleepy seaside town is thrown into chaos when a young boy is found murdered, and suspects are everywhere you turn.

The Cry

This four-part thriller set screens alight when it broadcast last year. The story follows young mother Joanna (played by Jenna Coleman) and her husband Alastair, whose lives are turned upside down when they travel from Glasgow to Australia with their baby son, to fight for custody of Alastair’s teenage daughter. What happens when they arrive, nobody could have foreseen.

Bodyguard

Missed this drama last year? Line of Duty fans will love this series, written by the same author. Scot Richard Madden plays veteran soldier David Budd, whose new career as a police sergeant sees him assigned as the new bodyguard to the Home Secretary, played by Keeley Hawes.
