Breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk, are encouraging Scots to embrace the fun of the fair this June as the MoonWalk returns to Edinburgh with a special circus-themed walk.

The MoonWalk Scotland - which takes place this year on Saturday June 8 - will see thousands of women, men and young people walking a quarter, half, full or double marathon through the streets of Edinburgh at midnight to raise money and awareness to fight the disease.

With thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Scotland, the charity’s work has been vital in helping those living with cancer. Since the event started in 2006, over £21.3 million has been raised by more than 86,000 walkers to improve the lives of Scots diagnosed with breast cancer.

Setting off from Holyrood Park, participants will walk through the night, completing one of four routes to raise money for the charity. This year, walkers are encouraged to don circus-themed bras to add a twist to the MoonWalk’s usual unofficial uniform.

To help encourage walkers to sign up for this year’s event, the MoonWalk teamed up with Gandeys Circus this week for a special performance at the big top. Wearing Walk the Walk’s famous ‘bra t-shirts’, organisers, volunteers and regular MoonWalkers got into the circus spirit with Chico the Clown, a fire breather, a contortionist and rolling globe performers from Gandeys to raise awareness of the charity walk.

Founder and Chief Executive of Walk the Walk, Nina Barough CBE said: “A huge thank you to Gandeys Circus for such a fun-filled experience and getting everybody in the mood to MoonWalk in June.  I hope it inspires more women, men and children to sign up and put one foot in front of the other and join our MoonWalk circus. With challenges from just 6.55 to 26.2 miles, there really is something for every age and ability. Come on folks, roll up! roll up! and help us raise money and awareness to support people living with cancer in Scotland.”
