Lovers of the silver screen rejoice - there’s a new cinema in town. Scotland’s newest cinema is opening this Friday (9 August) in Edinburgh’s The Scotsman hotel, and it’s really something special.

Transformed from a bare room and restored to a bygone era of cinematic opulence, the 48-seat Picturehouse boutique cinema is truly beautiful, with restored features including ornate Edwardian cornicing, wood panelling and luxurious red leather and velvet armchairs and sofas, perfect for snuggling down in to watch the movie.

And speaking of the movies, the Picturehouse will be screening a mixture of classic masterpieces, latest releases, modern cult favourites and curated cultural content including ballets and operas, so there’s really something for everyone. Expect a mix of screenings including Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, alongside classics like Breakfast At Tiffany’s and Whisky Galore.

Film lovers will also be able to combine their favourite movie with a meal; there’s ‘Afternoon Tea and a Matinee’, or ‘Brunch and a Blockbuster’ options available for earlier screenings, or perhaps you might like to upgrade date night with one of the specially-paired movie menus, at The Scotsman’s Grand Cafe, with packages starting from £19.95 per person.

Or if you just fancy a cosy cinema night in the stylish surroundings of the Scotsman Picturehouse, you can roll up with your date and purchase all the drinks and cinema snacks you could want at the Picturehouse bar.

This ‘vintage luxe’ cinema, in the heart of the capital, means residents and visitors to the city will be able to take advantage of the growing trend for immersive cinema experiences.

Head to the Scotsman Picturehouse website now to book your tickets when the cinema opens on 9 August - and don’t forget the popcorn!
