Established in West Wales in 1997, TOAST has grown from loungewear and nightwear to become a unique lifestyle brand renowned for its thoughtful, contemporary design and commitment to traditional textiles and craftsmanship.

To celebrate the Edinburgh store opening, TOAST teamed up with the Bothy Project to offer an emerging Scottish visual artist a one-week residency at Inshriach Bothy. A beautiful remote cabin in the heart of the Highlands, the bothy is the perfect place for artists to find inspiration.

Lucy Wayman, an emerging macramé artist based in Edinburgh, was chosen as the winner of the one-week residency at Inshriach Bothy. Lucy’s practice revolves around material constraints, contrasts, and forms. She transforms everyday materials into large complex hanging structures through knotting, whipping and weaving.

The work created during her residency, themed around TOAST’s SS19 campaign ‘The Unknown Path’, will be featured in the Edinburgh shop this spring.

Part of the brand’s ethos is to nurture relationships with established mills, knitters, weavers, ceramicists and artists around the world, and we can’t wait to see how they connect with talented Scottish designers and makers.

With a range of beautifully simple and functional clothing and homeware spread across two floors of a mid-19th century stone tenement block, TOAST is sure to become a favourite shopping haunt of the Hood team.
